Balogun Market Fire Tragedy: Family Announces Service of Songs for Three Brothers who died in Inferno

A service of songs will be held today, Tuesday, January 7, 2026, in honour of three brothers who tragically lost their lives in the devastating fire incident at Balogun Market, Lagos.

The fire broke out on Wednesday, December 24, at the Great Nigerian Insurance House within the Balogun Market complex, trapping several traders inside the building. Despite rescue efforts, Stephen Onyeka Omatu, Casmir Nnabuike Omatu, and Collins Kenechukwu Omatu were sadly among those who did not make it out alive, sending shockwaves through the market community.

Following the tragic loss, the Omatu family announced that a service of songs will be held today to remember the brothers, pray for their souls, and celebrate their lives, as traders, friends, and sympathisers continue to mourn one of the darkest moments in the history of Balogun Market.
