Lagos to Host 2026 CAF Awards in December

Lagos is set to become the centre of African football in December as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed the city as host of the 2026 CAF Awards.

The prestigious ceremony will take place on Monday, December 7, 2026, following a decision by the CAF Executive Committee during its virtual meeting on October 2nd.

The awards are expected to bring together some of the continent’s biggest football stars, coaches, clubs, national teams and administrators as CAF celebrates outstanding achievements in African football.

The 2026 edition will mark the fourth time Lagos has hosted the CAF Awards, following previous editions in 2008, 2013 and 2014. The last ceremony held in the city was in January 2015, when former Ivory Coast captain Yaya Touré won the African Player of the Year award, while Nigeria’s Asisat Oshoala claimed the women’s prize.

The ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts in Iganmu, formerly known as the National Theatre.

Nigeria will also host another major CAF event in November, with the organisation’s Ordinary General Assembly scheduled for November 21 in Abuja.

With the date now confirmed, attention will turn to the nominees and the continent’s top performers who will battle for the major individual and team honours at this year’s CAF Awards.
