TUNDE ONAKOYA MAKES A GOOD MOVE WITH NEW CHESS CLUB

Every move tells a story. On a chessboard, one wrong step can change the game. In life, however, the right move can open a door for someone else.

Perhaps that is the thinking behind Good Move, a new social chess club launched in Lagos by Nigerian chess master and Guinness World Record holder Tunde Onakoya.

The club held its first gathering on September 23 at PANU Lagos, bringing together chess lovers, beginners and curious minds. The plan is simple: meet every Tuesday, play chess, learn and connect.

But for Onakoya, chess has always been bigger than the board.

Through Chess in Slums Africa, he has used the game to reach children in underserved communities and create opportunities through education.

Now, Good Move is taking that idea into a new space. No pressure to be a professional. Just people, a chessboard and the chance to make a move.

And in a city that hardly slows down, perhaps that is the beauty of it: sometimes, a good move is simply giving people a place to pause, think and move forward.
