Sometimes, without even knowing it, the people in that crowd become part of history. That was the case at Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos on Saturday, September 26, 2026. Thousands of Nigerians gathered to watch Black Market, a Nollywood crime thriller directed by Fatimah Binta Gimsay. The screening attracted 51,000 qualifying viewers, earning the film a Guinness World Record for the largest audience at a film screening in a single location. The achievement surpassed the previous record of 43,624 viewers, set in 2015 during a screening of the Filipino film Felix Manalo in the Philippines. Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat also reported an overall attendance of about 64,000 people, although Guinness recognised 51,000 viewers who met the requirements for the record.
