Dangote Industries Limited has entered into a new multi-year partnership with CNN International Commercial aimed at putting African businesses, innovation and industrial development before a global audience.
The partnership was announced on Monday, August 10, 2026, and will combine television programming, digital storytelling, branded content and international business events. The initiative is designed to present Africa as more than a continent of emerging markets, but as a growing force in global business and economic development.
A major part of the agreement is Dangote Industries' sponsorship of Africa Inc., a new 30-minute programme on CNN International. The programme will be hosted by Nigerian journalist Adefemi Akinsanya and will focus on African companies that are competing, expanding and creating opportunities on the global stage.
The programme will cover different areas of African business, including technology, hospitality, manufacturing and entertainment. Its first full episode is scheduled to premiere on August 29, 2026, with four additional episodes planned through 2026 and into 2027. CNN will also produce shorter Africa Inc. segments every two months for its international audience.
The partnership goes beyond television. CNN's in-house branded-content studio, Create, will produce a separate campaign called Africa First. The campaign will use documentaries, human-interest films, data-driven articles and social media content to highlight Africa's industrial development and efforts towards greater energy independence.
The content will be distributed through CNN International, CNN.com and CNN Arabic, while selected material will also appear on CNN's United States television and digital platforms. Dangote Industries will additionally sponsor three editions of CNN's Global Perspectives events over the next 12 months.
Speaking about the partnership, Cathy Ibal, Senior Vice President of Advertising Sales at CNN International Commercial, said the agreement was about telling a different story about Africa.
«“We are pleased to be working with Dangote Industries Limited to tell the stories of a self-sufficient Africa.”»
Ibal added that the partnership reflects a shared ambition to highlight “the innovation, resilience, and leadership emerging from Africa” and connect those stories with CNN's global audience through media and events.
For Dangote Industries, the agreement is also part of a wider effort to strengthen its international brand.
Anthony Chiejina, Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer of Dangote Industries Limited, said on August 10 that the collaboration supports the company's global brand-positioning strategy.
According to Chiejina, the partnership will help Dangote highlight the progress being made under its Vision 2030 economic blueprint and its Africa First approach to industrialisation.
He described CNN International Commercial as “a veritable platform in showcasing our rapid industrialisation footprint in Africa.”
The partnership comes as Dangote Industries continues to expand its industrial footprint across Africa. The group has interests in areas including cement, fertiliser, food production, petrochemicals and oil refining, with its businesses operating across several African markets.
One of the most visible examples of that expansion is the Dangote Petroleum Refinery in Lagos, which has become a major part of Nigeria's efforts to increase domestic refining and reduce dependence on imported petroleum products.
The CNN partnership therefore gives Dangote an opportunity to connect its individual business projects to a much broader story — the changing role of African companies in the global economy.
For CNN, the collaboration also comes at a time when the network is increasing its focus on African business stories. The launch of Africa Inc. places African entrepreneurs and companies at the centre of a programme intended for an international audience.
The first Africa Inc. segments began airing on August 5, 2026, ahead of the programme's August 29 television premiere.
The significance of the partnership may ultimately go beyond Dangote itself. By putting African businesses and industrial projects on an international platform, the campaign could help challenge the way Africa is often portrayed in global media.
Instead of focusing mainly on Africa's problems, the partnership intends to showcase businesses, innovators and industries that are building, competing and creating solutions from within the continent.
For Dangote Industries, it is an opportunity to strengthen its global identity. For CNN, it is an opportunity to tell more stories about Africa's changing economy. And for the continent, it could provide a wider platform for African businesses seeking recognition beyond their home markets.
The partnership marks another step in the growing effort to make African businesses part of the global economic conversation, rather than simply subjects of
it.
